Water – Introduction
For a family of four you will need 56 gallons AT MINIMUM available for a 2-week water supply. Single folks, you need AT MINIMUM 14 gallons stored. That’s more than 3 typical cases* of bottled water for an individual or at least 12 cases for a family of four. That’s just for drinking and minimal rinsing.
Did that get your attention??
Water priorities during an emergency situation put drinking and basic food preparation at the top of the list followed by hygiene then cooking.
- We need one gallon per person, per day for drinking and minimal rinsing.
- We need 2 gallons per person, per day for drinking, basic cooking, plus very basic hygiene and sanitation. That is likely much more water than most of us have on hand.
*by American standards a typical case of bottled water is 32 bottles (16.9 ounces/bottle), ~$4 to $6 per case
